Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Psalm 107:1
It has been said that there is a difference between happiness and joyfulness. While happiness is circumstantial, to be joyful is to remain unwavering despite the difficulties life might bring us.
In Philippians 4, the Apostle Paul writes that he knows what it means to be content in whatever circumstance both in need and satisfaction. Yet what he finds his contentment in is not whether he’s being well fed or being starved but in Jesus, where he finds his strength to continue forward.
For some of us while we might not find satisfaction in our possessions but in Christ, sometimes we might look at how many twists and turns God has brought us through in life and wonder why He has us here in the first place. But in those moments of questioning we must feel it important to remind ourselves of God’s grace in our lives, because it is the reminder of His grace that keeps us anchored to His will for our lives.
In this, we can think of the servant Job who had everything stripped from him, yet one thing he never forgot was the goodness of God and so he says in Job 1:21 “The Lord alone gives and takes. Praise the name of the Lord!” The Lord alone provides the things we need in due season and while sometimes we may question what he has planned for us, may our hearts never question His goodness for our lives and may we continue in a heart of gratitude knowing that His goodness leads us to repentance, for while our lives may change He is our constant.
