Caring for Miami’s Project Smile Program exists to provide access to free dental services to uninsured, low-income families in Miami-Dade County through collaborative partnerships.
Our mobile dental unit has been providing free basic dental care to the community since 2009. In 2013, through a purchase of an updated mobile unit, our program was able to expand our community resources to provide additional restorative and surgical treatment through the use of state of the art technology and equipment. In 2015, in partnership with Baptist Health of South Florida, Project Smile opened its doors to serve as an ED referral program that works with various community agencies to divert non-urgent dental visits from the ED or community clinic to the dental chair.
The Project Smile mobile dental unit is a fully operational dental clinic on wheels. We operate 156 days per year as an Emergency Department referral clinic in partnership with Caring For Miami Baptist Health South Florida and the Florida Association of Free and Charitable Clinics. In addition, Project Smile partners with local community-based clinics and churches 24 Saturdays a year through volunteer-based outreaches to provide free dental services to over 60 zip codes throughout Miami-Dade County.
If you are a Florida licensed dentist, dental hygienist, or dental assistant we invite you to come and serve with us.
Caring For Miami’s Project Smile Program cooperates with the Florida Department of Health to provide sovereign immunity to dental and medical professionals who provide services on our dental unit. Under Sovereign Immunity the State of Florida assumes responsibility for any liability, thus protecting dentists and health care workers to practice in a “worry free” environment. To be eligible for Sovereign Immunity certain guidelines and processes must be followed as outlines by the Volunteer Health Care Provider Program.
