Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
HAPPY NEW YEAR! The fireworks are booming in the sky, you are eating twelve grapes as fast as you can, and then it sets in…’it’s a new year, time to kick my life into high gear.’ But when you task yourself with changing who you are by your newly established self-care routine of 6AM workouts and strict meal plans, where does your soul-care come from? So often we focus on a new year in regards to work, fitness, and maybe even financial goals but we neglect the nourishment our soul so desperately craves.
We forget that to fuel our lives, we need to fuel our future by our spirit. God gives us this verse in Romans 15 that tells us to fill ourselves with hope. There are so many things that people hope for or put their hope in or get their hope from. The promise of new business ventures, the promise of a new home, the promise of a new child, the promise of a new career. But these hopes are not lasting things.
The hope being spoken of in Romans 15 is one that comes from the promises made by an Eternal God. He gives us the promise of filling us with His joy, He gives us the promise of filling us with His peace, and through being filled with these two things we are given an everlasting hope that surpasses all our circumstances, all our shortcomings, all our failures, all of our accomplishments, all of our celebrations.
No matter what goals or trials you face this year, when we place our hope in God we no longer look to the outcome of our circumstances as a means for celebration. But, we look towards the One who got us through it and in every circumstance that He brings us through our spirit is filled with more hope in Him. What hope are you filling your spirit with?
