As summer comes to a close, our lives begin to bustle and move quite quickly. We prepare our children to go back to school, we buy Halloween costumes, plan holidays with family and friends, plan vacations, and we begin to ponder what the new year will look like.
It’s our time for a BREAK!
Often times the second half of the year begins to be more inwardly focused on our families and friends…and while we may think of those less fortunate than ourselves, our budgets are already tied up in personal affairs. There is nothing wrong with this, the Lord blesses wise stewards.
However, when we look to incorporate those less fortunate into our budgets, there is also blessing involved. Proverbs 29:14 states
If a king faithfully judges the poor, his throne will be established forever. Proverbs 29:14
The phrase saying to judge here didn’t necessarily mean what we normally intend as judging. We aren’t making a judgement against them but rather we are determining how we can aid their situation.
There are so many families who during this time of the year begin to worry how they will prepare their kids for school, what they can pull together as a Halloween costume, if they’ll even have a traditional holiday meal, or even be able to buy gifts for their kids. Lord knows what their next year may even look like.
We who are secure have a duty to aid those who are not. One of the ways we do that here at Caring For Miami is through our Backpack Program. We provide food for children whose families are food insecure so that they can have meals through the weekend.
We continue to do this with the generosity of people like you and us, in the hopes that the Lord would establish us to continue providing for these children and even ease the mind of a parent who may be worrying about where their child’s food will come from at the start of this new season.
